APS Announces First Group of Qualified Solar Installers
Business Wire, July 29, 2010
32 Installers Achieve QSI Designation
PHOENIX — In the first program of its kind in Arizona, 32 residential solar
installers became the first to achieve the designation of Qualified
Solar Installer (QSI) from Arizona
Public Service Co. These installers passed a challenging series of
technical, professional and administrative courses; hold the appropriate
licenses with the Arizona Registrar of Contractors; and have achieved
high customer satisfaction ratings.
The QSI designation allows residential customers to feel comfortable
they have selected a solar installer that is technically competent,
understands APSs policy and procedures and has demonstrated exemplary
customer service.
These installers are leaders in the industry,? said Eran Mahrer, APSs
Director of Renewable Energy. They understand the complexities
associated with the various types of solar installations and are
dedicated to the highest level of technical skills, customer service and
consumer safety.?
The QSI program was developed in response to Arizonas quickly growing
solar industry. Since 2006, the number of solar installers has grown
from 41 to more than 300. This program helps customers select an
appropriate and knowledgeable installer. More than 60 companies
participated in the first round of training, with 32 graduating in the
inaugural class. APS anticipates more than 75 companies will receive
their QSI certification in 2010.
To achieve a QSI designation, installers must pass at least one of two
course tracks one for installers of solar electric systems
(photovoltaics) and one for solar water heaters (solar thermal). The
photovoltaic series consists of four, two-day courses. The solar thermal
series has three courses, spanning a total of five days.
Both series cover the entire range of solar installation issues,
including theory and application of solar technologies, technical skills
of installation and maintenance, safety issues, applicable codes and
interconnection issues. The courses also cover working with APS,
including the final inspection process and the administration of APSs
Solar and Renewable Energy Incentive Program, as well as sales
standards and ethics.
Installers designated as a QSI must continue to keep high standards
including maintaining a quarterly customer satisfaction rating as
determined by the Electric League of Arizona, have a satisfactory pass
rate for APS inspections and pass annual technical and professional
education workshops. A list of QSIs is available at aps.com/findsolar.
Customers also can find a QSI by calling the APS Energy Answer Line at
(602) 371-3668.

Statistics indicate that
Statistics indicate that autism affects around 1.5 million people in the United States alone. The prevalence of the disorder among the American population is expected to rise with 10 percent each year. For some reason, autism predominantly affects boys, rarely occurring in the opposite sex.
Although modern science has been trying to identify the factors responsible for the occurrence of autism, in present the exact causes of the disorder remain unknown. However, scientists believe that autism occurs due to genetic dysfunctions that interfere with the normal activity of the central nervous system.
Medical scientists suspect that the poor social interaction skills characteristic to people with autism are determined by inappropriate communication between certain areas of the brain. After conducting various experiments, scientists revealed that unlike normal people, autistics have a very low brain activity when they are involved in social situations. A recent experiment has proved the theory that autistic people?s poor social interaction skills are generated by weak connections between brain areas.
The experiment brought together 16 people diagnosed with autism and 16 people who didn?t suffer from the disorder.

Up – EPA Certifies Water Pik Showerheads
EPA Certifies Water Pik Showerheads
0 Comments | Manufacturing Close – Up, Jul 6, 2010
Water Pik, Inc., a company focused on personal healthcare products, said it has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the brand’s commitment to high performance, water efficient showerheads.
In a release, Water Pik said that seven Waterpik showerheads have been awarded the EPA WaterSense label. The newly developed WaterSense criteria for the showerhead category – established to promote water efficiency in the shower, product performance and quality – requires a showerhead to flow at a rate of 2.0 gallons per minute (gpm) or less to earn certification.
“Since 1974 we’ve made it our mission to continually improve our consumers’ shower experience and our water efficient showerheads are no exception,” said Richard Bisson, President and CEO, Water Pik. “We’re thrilled the EPA has recognized seven of our showerheads with the WaterSense label so far and we’re committed to working with the EPA to encourage consumers to make water efficient choices in the bathroom.”
According to the EPA, showering accounts for approximately 17 percent of residential indoor water use in the United States – adding up to more than 1.2 trillion gallons of water each year nationwide. Showerheads bearing the WaterSense label must not only save water, but also meet multiple performance requirements in order to ensure a high quality shower experience.
In 2007, during the time the EPA was beginning research on showerhead standards, Ken Hair, Vice President of Engineering and New Product Development at Water Pik, participated in an industry task force alongside EPA, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the Canadian Standards Association (CSA), and other manufacturers with the goal of helping to develop new showerhead performance specifications for the WaterSense label.
“As a member of the task force, our goal was to establish a set of criteria for showerheads from which consumers, product manufacturers and local water utilities and governments would all benefit,” said Hair. “Plus, the WaterSense label also ensures that consumers will not have to sacrifice a good shower experience in order to achieve water savings.”
According to a release, to earn the WaterSense label, a showerhead must flow at a rate of no more than 2.0 gpm, tested at a flowing pressure of 80 pounds per square inch (psi), and tested against the following attributes to ensure performance and user satisfaction:
-A consistent flow rate across a range of pressures
-Spray force
-Spray coverage

The efficiency rate of
The efficiency rate of the cells was roughly 6 percent, a marked improvement over previous technology. In 1958, NASA launched the Vanguard Spacecraft, which was powered by solar panels.
In the following years, solar technology grew in leaps and bounds. Solar panels today are roughly 15 percent efficient, but also much smaller than they use to be. More importantly, companies are abandoning the panel platform and coming out with amazing new products. The first are shingles that look exactly like regular roof shingles and perform as such. Nanotechnology is also offering amazing possibilities with quantum dots, which are essentially solar panels on the quantum level. Eventually, these dots will be incorporated in things such as paint. Yes, the paint on the walls of buildings and homes will eventually also produce all the electricity needed for the structures.
Man has used the power of the sun for heat for a very long time. Only now, however, are we starting to master the technology to turn it into large amounts of free electricity.

Resumes that are too long are often
Resumes that are too long are often put aside because employers simply don’t have the time to read through lengthy dissertations. If it doesn’t fit on one page try paring it down to the bare minimum. The information must be relevant to the position you are applying for. Do not forget to attach your cover letter.
There are two types of resume formats that are used. The functional format will put your skills into categories. Your titles are listed on the bottom. This format is used by people who are changing careers and who don’t want to draw attention to gaps in employment or a possible lack of direct experiences. The chronological format is used by those on a career path. Your employment and education are listed in reverse chronological order. Outline your skills to show your best accomplishments.

Another way that couples are decorating their reception with love and memories is to play a video or a slide show of themselves with their relatives and loved ones. When set to music, this can be a stirring reminder of those that have been lost and those that may have been forgotten.
You can show this on a wall that everyone can see as they?re waiting for dinner, or even as dinner is served. And it doesn?t have to be perfect or even have an explanation as to who is who. It can just show the pictures of the new couple as they grew up, as they first met, and when they were engaged.
